It’s been really wonderful to see the rise in vegetable gardens around the world. It is no secret that we can become more self-sustained if we want to and this pandemic has shown us that not only is it possible, but easy to maintain and sometimes even fun?
There is a real myriad of options even if all you have is a windowsill. In a world where the vegetables are packaged(!!) to sell more of them to us - yes we are talking to you supermarkets! - having your own patch of vegetable goodness is not only good for the environment, but also good for you. Many people have forgotten the taste of nature-readied tomatoes, or sun ripened plums because we accept what we are given, which is usually bland, tasteless and boring. Trust us, there is nothing like the taste of an apple that has been just plucked - its fragrance alone, ah! - if you know someone who has a tree, ask them for an apple or two.
The rewards are just incredible - not only from a financial standpoint (you could save a few pounds) but also the nurturing and caring for a plant and then plucking that golden fruit - well that is priceless.
Another way to enhance your vegetable production is to own an allotment. Now, since there is a high demand for them, it is worth contacting your council now, as there is a wait list and it can sometimes take a couple of years to finally get yours. Growing vegetables has never been more in trend than now. Find out what vegetables you could be growing and start your own veg garden today. The rewards are just incredible - not only from a financial standpoint (you could save a few pounds) but also the nurturing and caring for a plant and then plucking that golden fruit - well that is priceless.
